We hear so much about the word trauma. What defines trauma? What “qualifies” as trauma? Webster’s dictionary says that trauma means an injury to living tissue or a disordered psychic or behavioral state due to severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury, an emotional upset. In Greek the word trauma means “wound” and it was historically only used for physical injuries, unlike today as we use that term like Webster says, also for emotional inflictions.
Trauma can be caused in many ways and the word “trauma” describes this both mentally and physically. Trauma exists in most of us in some form. We might be carrying a bad incident in our subconscious minds from when we were babies, kids, young adults or yesterday. What those traumas do to our future health is amazing, not in a good way! Maybe a kid in school called you names like ugly duckling, does that qualify? Sounds silly but it might be the reason you still feel like being a wall flower, not calling any attention to your looks….30 years later.
If there was one thing I could point to that keeps most of us stuck, not healing, making unhealthy choices or just struggling to feel happy, it’s usually trauma from something. I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist or mental health therapist so I am not in any way proclaiming to be that type of expert on this issue, however, metaphysically I have witnessed this truth. The best part about this whole topic is that IT DOES NOT MATTER if we even know anything about the trauma. We just know we need to release it.
Please do not struggle to figure out how you were traumatized or if it “counts” as trauma by someone else’s standards. What does matter is your intention to release any trauma responses that manifest through behaviors, illnesses or both. Intention to clear it out and start fresh is how we begin this new life that’s in front of us. We have taught our minds and bodies to respond to stress in certain ways and we can train them to respond in a new way. If you are ready to make a change, big or small, you can do it with a few releasing and clearing methods.
When you are ready to explore this, I look forward to working with all of you on this new journey. Remarkable changes await you!
