Happy New Year! Right? Have you made the resolution yet? Have you scolded yourself enough to pick the right resolution? Have you picked more than one? I am here to make you a New Years promise and this will help on every level.
There is never a better time to change the way you think than right now and begin this process. As long as you stay on this earth in 2023, this year will have just as many days in it as last year. You have 365 days to do anything you want…what do I mean by saying such foolishness? I mean that each and every day of 2023 you get to decide how you will respond to literally EVERYTHING!
Have you read the book The Four Agreements, written by Don Miguel Ruiz? I highly recommend this book. Here is the entire book in a nut shell, however please read it because the knowledge Ruiz shares is priceless. The first “Agreement” is to “Be impeccable with your word“, speak with integrity. Avoid using your word to gossip about others or speak bad about yourself. Seems like such an easy agreement and yet we all suffer in this area. catch yourself and reverse it, better yet, plan the best way to use your word and do that. Spread love with your words and that’s what you will get back.
The second agreement is “Don’t take anything personal“, because nothing others do is because of you! Other peoples actions and words are part of their own projection of the reality they are living, if you are immune to this then you won’t suffer. Other peoples actions and opinions belong to them. A saying I like to spout off is that what other people think of you is none of your business. If you make it your business then you’re feeding into that tragedy. Don’t feed the bears!
The third agreement is “Don’t make assumptions“, ask questions so you really understand. Always communicate clearly so as to avoid misunderstandings and if the one you are communicating with is hard to understand, for whatever reason, ask questions so you are clear about what they are saying. If we just assume they mean something and go on our way then we could be making big mistakes about who people are, events or beliefs. True education comes from listening to the answers of the questions we ASK.
And the final agreement is to “Always do your best“, in everything you do. Always doing your best doesn’t mean being perfect or overworking yourself. Doing your best today might look different than doing your best tomorrow, just try to always do your best in every moment. We all get tired and might not feel capable of doing everything we did yesterday but we can do the best we can with how we feel today.
Read the book for much deeper insights though, it really is one of my all time favorite reads. https://a.co/d/2OdXPzi
If we could make a resolution for this year to do these four things, really work on them everyday, we will have a fantastic year, I promise!
