Everything has its limits. Everything. Think about your car, only can go so fast, needs maintenance or it stops working, its life span isn’t forever. How about your job? Your job is a benefit. If you work for someone else it can be taken away from you, If you work for yourself, you can only do so much. How about the food in your refrigerator? That isn’t lasting forever, is it? What I want to address today, however, is our everyday lives.
When I was younger and living in Minnesota, I lived to go snowmobiling. Loved it so much I couldn’t imagine not owning one and going on long rides as often as I could. Living in Wyoming, I couldn’t wait to get moved up onto the mountain where it would be just like Minnesota, jumping on my snow machine and driving out of my yard for a nice long ride. I did get a couple snowmobiles once I moved on the mountain and we did have some fun on them, but nothing like before.
I was older, had three kids to entertain and I was getting colder than I did when I was younger. There was a time I felt like I was betraying myself because I wasn’t as into it as I used to be! I am pretty sure I even forced myself to go out and ride when I would have rather sat by the fire! And then I realized I had developed a new passion of riding four wheelers in the summer. That was way more fun, and I was really into that now. So, I ditched the cold machines for the warm ones. Was I really betraying my old self? Was I losing something? I felt like I had realized a new joy, and I could walk away from this old one. I had hit my limit.
You know what else has its limits? Our old belief systems. Sometimes or actually most of the time we don’t even know what it is that’s holding us back from doing, being or getting what we want. We are so limited in our belief systems that we can’t seem to figure out what the big change would be, could be etc. We will often talk in the negative because that is what we are used to, comfortable with and expect. Then we can’t be disappointed, can we?
Try this for a week, just one week and see what happens. Every time you begin to say something negative, change it. You can even just say STOP when you realize you’re doing it and resay it in a positive way. Here is a stupid simple example, “yuck it’s raining again”, STOP “Hey there! It’s spilling life juice on the earth”! How about things we say about ourselves like, “I really need to lose weight, I can’t seem to get a handle on it.” STOP, change it to, “Thankfully I’m healthy and have complete control when it comes to my weight.”
This is just one simple tool to try, there are bunches, and I’d love to help you discover them! Reset your limits, redefine them, broaden them! Let’s do it!
